Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star Of Michigan December 2011 Dear Sisters and Brothers: Winter is now upon us soon and we will wish for Spring. Although winter has its beauty as well, when the snow is fresh on the trees and the sunlight hits it just right, do you notice how it sparkles with such awe? That should remind us of the excitement we see in a new candidate as they walk into our Chapter with the Conductress’ for the first time during the Initiation. Their eyes sparkle so brightly. Brother Lenzy and I wish for Christmas is to keep that enthusiasm within them for ever. Put back the sparkle in the members’ eyes. It is up to you and I to keep that going within our new members and to bring it back to ourselves once more. Only we can make the change to have enthusiasm in ourselves. Remember to smile, it does catch on. Schools are now behind us, I hope you enjoyed them. The Grand Officers are now preparing for our first GOEX in January. I hope many of you will come to support them during the year. Take the opportunity to bring a new or seasoned member to an Exemplification. Who knows, possibly they will return to Chapter to take part in your activities. May you all have a Very Merry Christmas, A Happy Hanukkah, and a Safe New Year. As William Shakespeare once said “One touch of nature makes the whole world Kin.” In Friendship, Nancy A. Martin Worthy Grand Matron Lenzy R. Lewis Worthy Grand Patron MARTIN-LEWIS CHRISTMAS VESPER SERVICE John 1:1-5 WORTHY PATRON In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him and without Him was not anything made that was made. In Him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in darkness; and the darkness comprehends it not. HYMN: “JOY TO THE WORD” (UPTEMPO) “THE ROMANCE OF CHRISTMAS” Christmas. A divine Love affair. The romance of a God who is crazy out of His mind with love for His human creation. For Christmas bids us come in out of the cold and dark and cozy up by the fireplace of God’s love, warming our souls at the glowing embers of His grace and truth. John 3:16 & 17 For God so Loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God send not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved. Let us pray. CHAPLAIN Our heavenly Father, we thank you for this Christmas season; for friends, family, and your all encompassing love. Help us Lord, to see you today and not just the hustle and bustle of the Christmas Season. But YOU and everything you want for us. We ask Father that you come into our lives and make us perfect in your eyes. Thank you Father for everything and all you do. AMEN So may it ever be. WORTHY MATRON For God so loved the world…For God so loved the world. Let’s share something that can be very important. Two centuries ago, men were following with bated breath the march of Napoleon and waiting feverishly for news of the war. And all the while, in their own homes; babies were being born. But who could think about babies? Everybody was thinking about battles. But in one year, there stole into a world a host of heroes. Gladstone was born in Liverpool, England, and Tennyson at Somersby. Oliver Wendell Holmes was born in Massachusetts. The very same day of that same year, Charles Darwin made his debut at Shrewsbury. Abraham Lincoln drew his first breath in Old Kentucky, and music was enriched by the birth of Felix Mendelssohn in Hamburg. But nobody thought about babies. Everybody was thinking about battles. Yet, which of the battles of 1809 mattered more than the babies that were born in 1809? We fancy that God can only manage His world through the big battles of life, when all the while He is doing it through the beautiful babies that are being born in the world. When a wrong needs righting, or a truth wants preaching, or a continent wants opening, God sends a baby into the world to do it. And where do you find God on Christmas? In a manger. A baby was born at the heart of the Roman Empire, that when that Empire would crumble and fall, the baby, who would become a Man, would also become the Savior of the world. When the wise men found the stable, they also found a baby. When people ask about the future, they should remember one thing: “The greatest men of God are not world-class preachers. They aren’t famous, and they aren’t media idols. The greatest man of God is not a pastor of a church. The greatest Man of God is a baby.” If Christmas is about anything, it’s about a baby and the Romance of a God for His creation. God’s baby, born in a stable, who would change the world forever. For God so loved the world…For God so loved the world. Amen and Amen. MARTIN-LEWIS CHRISTMAS VESPER SERVICE Thank you for your participation in the annual Christmas Vesper Service. Please complete the following report and mail it along with the check (donations received at the Vesper Service to benefit the Grand Chapter Education Fund) to: Mary A. Ivey, Grand Secretary Grand Chapter OES of Michigan 13464 Preston Drive, Suite 250 Marshall MI 49068-9684 NAME & NUMBER OF CHAPTER: ___________________________________________ NUMBER IN ATTENDANCE: ________________________________________________ AMOUNT OF OFFERING: _____________________ CHECK NUMBER: ____________ (032 016 0 ED Reg Vesper) COMMENTS: NAME & TITLE :_______________________________________________________________ Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star Of Michigan December, 2011 Dear Sisters and Brothers: The members of the 2006 Board of Directors stated at that time each chapter who may have a member (after making her/his written intent known to her/his Chapter), seeking an endorsement for an Elective Grand Chapter Office, should contact the Grand Secretary “Prior” to the Chapter vote of endorsement being taken. At that time it was advised that a member of the Jurisprudence Committee visit the Chapter for the purpose of explaining the responsibilities of the individual and her/his Chapter. The procedure will assist individuals and Chapters by allowing them to ask questions and clarify the responsibilities before a vote occurs. This practice will still continue for the 2011-2012 term. We hope to help and assist future candidates and their Chapters by providing information that will allow them to make an informed decision. In Friendship, Nancy A. Martin Worthy Grand Matron Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star Of Michigan November 18 2011 Secretaries please read at your stated meeting Dear Sisters and Brothers: It has been brought to my attention some members have started an OES Face Book website. Although this is a nice thought and does seem to communicate with members who are computer wise, Grand Chapter cannot approve such a website. It has been reported that not only are events of OES Chapters/County Associations listed, but personal comments about chapters and chapter members (some derogatory) are also posted in the website. Grand Chapter has an official OES website. The Executive Board is working with a computer-savvy member/person who is working on making the official OES website more user friendly with easier availability to our members. In order to start a website which is identified as OES website you must have the permission of the Executive Board. You may post whatever you wish on your own personal FaceBook, but we would hope that you would remember the words “I will not speak evil of a Sister or a Brother, or perform any act of injustice or unkindness toward them.” Please delete the FaceBook Website for OES of Michigan at this time. Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star Of Michigan INFANT APPAREL COMMITTEE 2011-2012 This year the Worthy Grand Matron and Worthy Grand Patron have selected as one of their committees the “Infant Apparel Committee”. This committee is asking your chapter members to make premie hats, sweaters, baby blankets, or other infant clothing. Members who do not do crafts such as knitting or crocheting may enjoy purchasing small baby items to be donated. Perhaps you have some baby yarn in your storage area and would love to donate it to be used for the projects. Try to think of ways that all of your members can participate. We are hoping that individuals who love to knit or crochet will form a small group and work on small items for infants. This may be done by having small groups in your home to work on crafts or have a work bee at the temple to work on your projects, and could be held as many times per month as you wish. This would be a great time for your members to get to know each other better. We hope that you will contact your local hospital or other agencies in your community that make items available to those in need. Often times the hospital will have premie patterns available to use. This is not a money making project. It is set up to be a community service project. Each chapter should distribute the items made or donated to agencies in their own community. We would like each chapter to appoint a chairman. Keep track of the items that are made or collected. Make a list with the name and address of people who have contributed to the projects. We would also like to know where the items went. Please report if outside people contributed to the project. This information should be sent to me as Chairman of the Infant Apparel Committee. We hope that you will send me the donated information on a monthly basis so I can compile it and report to the Worthy Grand Matron. We will compile all of the information received for the year and report to Grand Chapter on the results at the end of the year. The complete information will be due on June 1, 2012. I have premie hat patterns available, both knitted and crochet. You may contact me to receive them. (See information below) We hope that you will add a tag to the donated items that says “Made or donated by O.E.S. This would let people know where the items came from and may promote interest in our Order. We wish you a very successful project.
